3 Types Of Commercial Sprinkler Systems For Your New Business

Posted on

If you are in the process of setting up a business, you need to make sure that you take the proper steps to protect it from a fire. Here is a quick overview of the three types of commercial sprinkler systems that are available to you.

#1 Dry Type System

Dry type sprinkler systems are designed for specific types of business setups. They are typically used in outdoor installations or business areas. They are also used inside of large warehouses, warehouse-sized freezers as well as unconditioned spaces. They are designed to work in areas where the temperature is not regulated and where it may occasionally be freezing or where freezing temperatures are common.

In order to ensure that the lines that hold the water do not become frozen when needed, air is kept inside of the sprinkler branch line. It is common for the lines to be filled with either nitrogen or air from the environment. All the water is held back at the main riser. When a sprinkler is activated, it first releases the air that is in its branch line. This decrease in pressure will trigger the value that will release the water from the main riser line, and the water will then flow through the pipes even if the area it is dispensing the water into is at or below freezing.

#2 Preaction Systems

Preaction systems are designed for areas where lots of electronic equipment is located. These types of systems are connected to heat and smoke detectors so that water is not discharged on accident. It is interconnected with other systems to ensure that water is only released when it is absolutely necessary. This is a great type of system to have in place if you need to install a sprinkler system for building code regulations but have equipment that you need to protect.

#3 Wet Sprinkler System

The most common type of sprinkler system is the wet type of sprinkler system.

With this type of system, pipes and sprinklers will run across the ceiling of your business. Water will be stored inside of the sprinkler systems so that the pipes are full of water. When your sprinkler system is activated, water will come immediately and directly out of the sprinklers. You can install the sprinklers with specific spray patterns so that your store is correctly sprayed down.

When using a wet sprinkler system, make sure that you have a steady water supply with the right level of pressure for your wet sprinkler system If the pressure is not strong enough, you may also need to install a fire booster pump in conjunction with your wet sprinkler system.

The type of sprinkler system you need for your business depends on your unique set-up. It is possible that you may need more than one type of sprinkler system based on your set-up.
