Add A Bay Or Bow Window To Improve The Looks Of Your Home

Posted on

After living in the same home for many years, you will eventually have to replace the windows in it. Windows wear out and become inefficient over time and replacing them offers a way to make your house look nicer and become more energy efficient. As you make plans for this event, you may also want to consider adding a bay window or a bow window. This is the perfect opportunity to change one of the window styles in your home, and both of these are great options.

What are bay and bow windows?

Bay and bow windows are very similar types of windows, but there are differences with them. Both types project out of a house, meaning that they are not even with the house itself. When a room has a bay or bow window, it often has a large window ledge in the room, which is perfect to use for displaying plants, but this is not always the case.

Bay and bow windows are ideal in living rooms or kitchens, but they can be installed in almost any room in a home.

What are the differences?

One of the main differences is the number of windows each type contains. Bay windows are more common than bow windows and are easy to spot. A bay window is always made up of three separate windows, with the middle window being parallel with the house. The middle window generally is a fixed window, which means it cannot be opened. The outer two windows are angled towards the center window, and these windows can usually be opened.

A bow window, on the other hand, is typically made up of four or five windows instead of just three, but they can contain even more than this. You may be able to open some of the windows in a bow window, but you will not be able to open all of them because of the angles. Bow windows generally have more of a rounded look from the outside because of the number of windows they contain, and you may be able to see outside more clearly with a bow window.

If you are interested in improving the way your house looks during window replacement, this is one option to consider looking into. A window replacement contractor can help you decide which type is better for your house, and you may get to choose from a variety of different styles and sizes of windows.
